How does Reiki work?

 Reiki, (pronounced Rey-Key), is an ancient healing art rediscovered in Japan by Mikao Usui. Reiki is a Japanese word describing "Universal Life Force Energy."  We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called nadis, meridians and chakras. It also flows around us. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. This life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, (either consciously or unconsciously), negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts or feelings attach themselves to the energy field causing a disruption in the flow of life force.

Reiki balances and harmonizes by flowing through the affected areas of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. By raising the vibratory energy field, it causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a natural way. The reason dis-ease exists is due to our thoughts and programming. Reiki assists us in changing the programming. The programs come from many sources such as our ancestors, our current lifetime and from Universal Consciousness. Reiki goes beyond treating symptoms to treating the root cause of dis-ease. When we begin to honor ourselves in a new way, we will begin to heal on all levels of our being.

How is therapy done?

 Reiki is a precise system for balancing energies throughout the complete physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dynamic. While you are fully clothed and relaxed on a comfortable bodywork table, the Reiki therapist uses a basic pattern of hand placements down the complete body on both front and back as well as the head. The Reiki energy raises the vibratory action of the cell of the physical body in and around areas where negative thoughts and feeling attach themselves, thus causing the negative energy to break apart and fall away.  It works to restore balance to the whole, dynamic system of the human energy field allowing the vital energy to flow freely and naturally. Reiki can also be combined with your regular massage therapy session.  Many people choose to recieve the benefits of both at the same time! 

About this Practitioner

Angela Bothwell is a certifed Massage Therapist, Hypnotherapist, and Reiki Master Teacher.  She has been practicing Massage Therapy and Reiki full time for 10 years.    Additionally, Angela has traveled to Thailand on three separate occasions to sit in long meditation for 6 weeks at a time.  The purpose of this practice was to clear her own energetic blocks as well as to sharpen the silent, intuitve skills of the mind.  Clearing the mind and the body in such a way creates a condition whereby the practitioner is more present and can move and direct healing energy in a more effective way. During her time in Thailand, Angela also had the opportunity to recieve rare training in Thai native healing practices, as well as mantra-based healing techniques. This has enhanced her Reiki practice greatly.
